Det Kgl. Danske Musikkonservatorium (The Royal Danish Musical Academy) had a requirement for a new Intranet solution to be launched ready for the new school year starting on the 1st of September 2008. The Intranet will be used by more than 600 teachers, administrators and students.
The Intranet should be able to deliver many new features as standard and also integrate with other DKDM applications.
- DKDM calendar (developed by Pentia in Sitecore)
- DKDM telephone directory (developed by Pentia in Sitecore)
- DKDM Booking system (developed by Paldam IT)
- DKDM E-mail (Novell Group Wise)
In addition to these requirements, the new Intranet should also be integrated with DKDM’s Novell AD to deliver Single Sign On functionality (SSO)
Sitecore Intranet Portal (SIP) was chosen as the solution and it was decided to split the project into two phases.
The first phase focused on the implementation of SIP as a standard product together with the integration of DKDM’s Novell AD, so that users could benefit from SSO. In phase one, DKDM chose to evaluate how much the standard design of SIP should be adjusted while updating the content.
Towards the end of phase one, the clarification process of phase 2 was undertaken. As a part of this it was necessary to examine whether or not it was possible to integrate with the above mentioned DKDM applications. To enable this, a “Proof of concept” was. Following this the second phase was started.
To present the various applications, two I-frames were created in SIP; one for the web parts on the front page and the other as a full page. These were developed, so Sitecore Administrators are able to change the dimensions in Sitecore.
Code was written for the Single Sign On to enable the user to:
- See and edit their appointments in the DKDM calendar.
- See and edit their reservations in the booking system. The booking system and related SSO code was delivered by the producer Paldam-IT.
- See their last 5 E-mails and be able to click on one to open the E-mail system in a new window.
- Search in DKDM’s telephone directory.
It was decided to retain SIP’s standard design. The only changes made were to replace the logo with that of DKDM as well as small graphical changes. These were made directly in Sitecore.
